Catalox is a specially formulated 20x40 Mesh size granular manganese dioxide media possessing exceptionally oxidative properties, making it ideal for the treatment of groundwater for potable water a very high surface loading rates is a mineral form of manganese dioxide which has been used in water treatment for potable water at very high surface loading rates (4-15 gpm/sq.ft) for the removal of iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide.
The high catalytic activity and adsorptive capacity of the media enables the processing of very high flow rates in small diameter filters resulting in significant savings in space and supporting infrastructure. Unlike other traditional media, the primary mechanism of removal is adsorption of the oxidized species on the external and interstitial surface of the media as opposed to physical filtration, thereby making contact time an important design consideration. Waters containing high iron and manganese concentrations can be effectively treated by increasing the contact time to yield the desired filter run interval, thereby reducing the frequency of backwash.
Hydrogen sulfide is readily converted to elemental sulfur to produce an odor free effluent.
Technology Advantages
- High surface loading rate
- Ideal for small flow POE applications for residential and commercial systems
- Exceptionally efficient removal of iron and manganese concentrations of up to 10ppm over a pH range of 6.0-8.0 with removal to less than 0.2ppm for iron and less than 50ppb for manganese.
- Very low clean bed pressure drop and low terminal pressure drop at breakpoint
- Single bed of Catalox over garnet under bedding - no intermediate media required.
